Typical Process of Manufacturing

Regardless of the model, a complete OEM process typically involves the following steps:

1. Requirements communication and quotation

The client sends the design draft, process sheet, and fabric requirements to the factory. The factory then assesses factors such as process complexity, material usage, and delivery time before providing a quote. The quote typically includes fabric costs, accessory costs, processing fees (including cutting, sewing, and finishing), and packaging costs.

2. Prototyping and Confirmation

Factory produces sample garments (usually 1-3 pieces) according to customer requirements. The customer inspects the sample garments for their pattern, workmanship, size, fabric feel, etc., and provides feedback until they are satisfied. Once the sample garments are confirmed, they are usually sealed and used as the standard for mass production. For a custom sports jacket, prototyping is especially critical to ensure the fit and performance meet expectations.

3. Signing the contract and making an advance payment

After both parties confirm the price, quantity, delivery date, and quality standards, a contract is signed. Industry practice dictates a 30%-50% deposit in advance, with the balance due before delivery or after successful inspection.

4. Fabric sourcing and cutting

Factory purchases fabrics and accessories (zippers, buttons, linings, care labels, etc.) based on order volume, and then performs fabric loosening, layout, and cutting. Some factories require customers to specify fabric suppliers or provide their own fabrics.

5. Assembly line sewing

This is the core process. The cut pieces are then assembled into garments by sewing workers according to a set procedure. Larger factories may use overhead conveyor lines or modular production, which offers more consistent efficiency and quality.

6. Post-processing and inspection

This includes buttonhole sewing, thread trimming, ironing, and inspection (size, appearance, color difference, defects, etc.). Garments that pass inspection proceed to the packaging stage.

7. Packaging and Shipping

Fold or hang according to customer requirements, affix hang tags, size labels, and washing labels, and pack into plastic bags or cartons. The factory arranges logistics for delivery.

8. Final payment settlement and after-sales service

After receiving the goods, the customer inspects them and pays the balance upon confirmation that everything is correct. If there are any quality issues, both parties will negotiate repairs or compensation.

The THIRD process will be discussed in the next article.
